Parish Roll Preview

A new way of keeping your Parish Roll.

From my experience gained while working in the Diocesan Office, many parishes seem to share a common problem – that of keeping their Parish Roll up-to-date. In a determination to get it right, a task team is assembled to correct all the information, load all the new members and delete the ones who have left. After a huge effort, the project is finished. Hallelujah! But six months later it is all out of date again and nobody has the correct information. This problem arises because the information is kept in one place where only one person has access to it. When that person leaves, become bored, overloaded or when the software breaks, the system collapses and another task team is put in place to fix it - again.

Yet having up-to-date, accurate information on the Parish Roll is a key requirement for two things:

1.       Being able to communicate with your members, whether by post, email or SMS
2.       Being able to get everyone involved in the parish community and in parish events.

The good news is that with changing technology this can all be achieved and the parish leaders can all be involved in two processes:

  • Keeping the information on the Roll up-to-date

  • Making use of it to grow the parish       .

When looking at it please bear the following in mind.

1.       If it is loaded on to your Diocesan portal, then the Diocese will pay for the costs of hosting, bandwidth and software
2.       It can also be built as a free-standing unit which will give your parish complete control.

The dummy model was based on St. Luke’s requirements, but these can easily be adapted to your requirements. Each parish’s roll will be free standing and can be adapted to its own requirements within the limits of the software programme. In the dummy model everything is visible by everybody, but in a live model only those authorised by the parish would be able to see the details. It can also be arranged, if you would prefer it, that some people can see but not edit, where others can do everything.
